Sashar Zarif
presents

Choreographies of Migration
In a richly layered program, Azerbaijani artist Sashar Zarif draws from personal experiences to ponder how migration has transformed traditional dance. Through two linked premieres, he invites us to consider our own origins. Anar isa quartet for seasoned dance artists Holly Small, Carol Anderson, Susan Cash, and Terrill Maguire that references the pomegranate (Anar), a fruit common in the Middle East, whose lush, multi-seeded inner pulp is encased by a tough outer skin. Life is the Feeling of a Migrating Bird is an autobiographical solo created and performed by Sashar Zarif. Also featured are his award-winning collaboration with Holly Small, In The Letters Of My Name, commissioned by Dance Ontario, and his compelling trio Wait with original music by Mohammad Tabrizi-zadeh.
