touring Toronto singer-songwriter Chloe Charles, returns from the U.S. and Europe to perform an intimate show recorded by CBC Radio for Canada Live.

Toronto art folk singer-songwriter Chloe Charles returns from a huge tour in support of her critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Little Green Bud’ for an intimate show at Toronto’s Hugh’s Room (2261 Dundas St. West, south of Bloor St.), which is to be recorded by CBC Radio for Canada Live on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 8:30 p.m.; special guest award winning acoustic guitarist-songwriter Maneli Jamal will open the evening.

Tickets are $15.00 in advance/$17.00 at the door, and are available by phone at 416-531-6604 or email at [email protected] (dinner reservations are recommended; www. hughsroom.com).

Chloe Charles states, “After four months of solid touring, I am looking forward to finally coming home for special reasons. To play for my Toronto fans, to play at one of our best listening rooms and the show will be recorded by CBC, one of my favourite Canadian radio stations. I am absolutely honoured to have been chosen to partake in the Canada Live series; it makes me proud to be Canadian.”

The road is Charles’ constant companion, touring hundreds of dates throughout North America (Quebec, Ontario and the eastern half of USA) in 2010 prior to and following her first independent EP and video releases (October 1, 2010), and continuing this year with more dates in the eastern and southern United States, Germany and England.

The Memphis Folk Alliance seems to be a good luck charm for Chloe Charles. In 2010 she scored a breakout showcase there and this time (March 2011) she, along with friend and touring accompaniment Texas singer-songwriter Aly Tadros, formed a brand new band called The Sweetness (Charles and Sam McLellan from Toronto and Tadros and Douglas Jay Boyd from Austin, Texas). There is more news to come from The Sweetness; details soon.

Opener, accomplished and award winning solo acoustic guitarist Maneli Jamal released his first full length album entitled "The Ziur Movement" in 2009. He won first place in the 2010 Taylor Guitars Showdown and is officially endorsed by Cole Clark guitars.

Persian by blood yet well-travelled, Toronto’s Jamal combines folk, flamenco and Persian modes with his own percussive technique to create a rich and unique voice on the guitar.

The soon-to-be 26 year-old Charles grew up a daughter to mixed-race parents living in rural Claremont, Ontario, Canada and is strongly inspired by her roots (her mother plays classical guitar and her father owned night clubs) and her ties to musical royalty (her father married Cynthia Lennon, so her step-brother is Julian Lennon).

Charismatic and experimental, Chloe Charles breaks female singer-songwriter stereotypes, drawing from many genres with ethnic inspirations and a pop sensibility, coupled with chamber folk and soul. Classical guitar in hand, accompanied by viola or violin, double bass and unique percussive instrumentation, she receives comparisons to Kate Bush, Bjork and Joni Mitchell.
Reviews:

“A refreshing change; Charles has her own style that meshes heart with vulnerability. She sways from ballads to chants to crisp harmonies, all while politely strumming her guitar. You know that guitar is her ultimate companion and she shreds that relationship beautifully on stage...A voice worth hearing; a presence worth revisiting.” – Kathryn Kyte, www.livemusicto.com.

“The album puts Charles in the spotlight, and her distinct voice will keep her shining — there are only five tracks on Little Green Bud — we can guess that her deep and peculiar sounding voice will give her an advantage and, soon enough, a record contract. This is definitely an album to be proud of.” – Jobana Soto, www.venuszine.com.
