Chinese Reading and Writing for Background Speakers 101 Course/Class April 29, 2011

With approximately 700,000 Australians claiming Chinese descent, there is a growing need for those with Chinese backgrounds to develop and retain their rich cultural and linguistic heritage. This course is designed for learners with Chinese backgrounds who have acquired fluent speaking and listening skills but lack the equivalent reading, writing and grammar skills. Building on their linguistic and cultural backgrounds in Chinese, participants will be able to further develop these literacy skills in Mandarin, which is the official Chinese language. Hanzi, or Han Chinese characters, will be introduced throughout the course for both reading comprehension and writing practice. Details of this event may be subject to change.
