Aficionados of Chinese history and culture will be delighted with the opportunity to dig deeper into the history and culture of the Zhou, Qin, and Han dynasties. In conjunction with the current Terracotta Warriors: The First Emperor & His Legacy exhibition, the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) will be hosting two conferences that are dedicated to the issues of the exhibition.

Join an international panel of academics and archaeologists and find out how the discovery of the terracotta army in 1974 has shed new light on an emperor who has been viewed as a ruthless tyrant for most of history. Speakers at the conference in English include Dr. Frances Wood of the British Library and Professor Guolong Lai of the University of Florida. Professor Cao Wei, Deputy Director of the Terracotta Army Museum, Shaanxi, China and Dr Wang Tao, Senior Lecturer in Chinese Archaeology, University of London, will be among those presenting papers at the conference in Chinese.

The conferences will discuss spiritual and worldly topics that lie at the heart of Chinese culture. Learn about concepts of the afterlife through tomb architecture and culture, as well as ideas about the soul in early China. Chinese artistic sensibilities, creativity, and skills will be revealed through examinations of Eastern Zhou, Qin, and Han art and archaeological findings.

Although the terracotta army has provided rich materials on the Qin dynasty, it has sparked many more questions. Join the discussion as the experts share their insights and interpretations.
