As interest in afrobeat music resurges across the globe, Chicago Afrobeat Project (CAbP) tours relentlessly as a 7 to 11 piece ensemble in support of the group's original mission conceived in the fall of 2002. Crafted in a third-story loft on the West Side of Chicago, the group was founded by like-minded musicians dedicated to injecting an explosive, urban formula into the organic and danceable sounds of Fela Kuti's afrobeat. Kuti crafted afrobeat in the late '60s and '70s by mixing Western jazz, funk and rock in the style of James Brown with West African highlife and juju music. The result is some of the most infectiously danceable music on the planet.
