This exhibition presents an impressive selection of chiaroscuro woodcuts from the Kirk Long print collection, including works from the Renaissance to Mannerism and featuring many of the most famous examples from the first century of this new medium. Revolving around a couple of large-scale chiaroscuro prints such as Coriolano?s four-sheet Fall of the Giants, the exhibition showcases approximately 20 smaller-scale Renaissance prints with classical or Biblical themes. Also included are a sampling of chiaroscuros by prominent masters such as Ugo da Carpi, who claimed to have invented the technique, Antonio da Trento, Parmigianino, and Niccolo Vicentino reproducing paintings and drawings by such as Raphael and Parmigianino.
