***SHHH!!! (Keep this quiet!!) Some of you may know that Jeff Powell, the station manager at 91.7 WSGE, is leaving in mid-April. Jeff has accepted a position at WGWG (Gardner-Webb), which is a few minutes from his house in Boiling Springs. Since Jeff took the job at WSGE in 2002, the station has come a very long way. WSGE is now operating out of a new state-of-the art studio, and is on track for a signal upgrade very soon. As well, since Jeff took the job at WSGE, Creative Loafing voted WSGE "Best Supporter of Local Music" two years in a row. Jeff and 91.7 WSGE have been very good to the local music scene and it is our chance to thank Jeff before he leaves for WGWG in April.

As a token of appreciation we are giving Jeff a guitar on April 16th at The Evening Muse. Jeff's favorite artsit, Malcom Holcombe, will be playing that night and we want to surprise Jeff with the guitar. If you want to show your appreciation for all Jeff has done and want to contribute to the fund to purchase Jeff's guitar, please do the following:

-Drop off check or cash at The Evening Muse by Wed. April 13th. (mention it's for a present for JEFF)
-Mail check to John Dungan (make check out to John Dungan) 1352 Harding Pl. - Charlotte, NC 28204 - ***Please make all checks out to John Dungan***
- Please remember to keep this quiet

***The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is planning an event in Charlotte which will take place at Amos' Southend on Wednesday May 11th, starting at 7:00. It's part of ASCAP's continuing support of new music on a local level featuring some of Charlotte's best new talent. There will be ASCAP Member Relations folks in town from New York for the event and they will sponsor an Open Bar for the first hour of the evening. The guys from ASCAP would like to meet everyone in town who is involved in the music scene in any way...radio, music journalists, studio owners, producers, managers, label owners, booking agents, record store owners, and ARTISTS! Especially NEW ARTISTS that would like to find out more information about ASCAP and what they do. This is a chance to gain some insight about affiliating with ASCAP to see how it could further your career.

The line-up for the evening (starting at 8:00 pm) is: Rudy Currence, U-Phonik and Bellglide. Also, they are busy inviting some A&R and attorneys from New York to town for this event. If you have any questions and/or ideas, please email Kerry McCarthy at: [email protected].

***Nigerian 419 scam alert! Please be aware that a number of advertisers received e-mails from an individual pretending to want to buy their items offering a payment of $5,000 and expecting the change to be sent back to them. This is a scam. Here's a copy of the letter one of my readers received: http://www.radioexchange.net/scam_alert.htm and more info about the Nigerian 419 scam >> http://home.rica.net/alphae/419coal/
