****Band/Artist/Media News, Features and Announcements

***Congratulations to Jeff Hartman (Scott Jeffrey's Band) and his lovely wife Carol Anne on the birth of their TWINS! Coble Alexander Hartman and Kellen Andrew Hartman were born Tuesday, March 8th and the whole family is healthy and happy! You can drop a note to Jeff at [email protected].

***Congratulations also to Phil & Angie Carias on the birth of their granddaughter, Sky Marie Carias. Reports are the baby, parents Jason & Mere, AND grandparents are all doing very well.

***The Bayou Kitchen in Charlotte has closed its doors. We don't know much more than there's a sign on the door that says after 17 years in business, they have closed, and their phone has been disconnected. If anyone knows anything, please drop me an email.

***A small group, Friends of Etta if you will, has put together a plan to help Etta Baker with her medical and living expenses. Etta Baker lives in Morganton and is one of North Carolina's living treasures. Renowned for her piedmont-style blues guitar playing, she is 92 years old and not in the best of health. (If you are not familiar with Etta, click http://www.ncarts.org/news_newsletter.cfm to learn more about her: )

Doc (Watson) and Dave (Holt) will perform at the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium (CoMMA) on Friday, April 15, at 8:00 pm. All seats are reserved for $20.00 each. 100% of gate receipts will be put into a fund at Morganton Federal Savings and Loan Bank, from which Etta may draw money as needed. To order tickets, call the CoMMA box office at 1-800-939-SHOW.

The concert is being underwritten via ?Baker?s Dozen,? or thirteen $1,000.00 local donors. Any remaining money from this source will be included in the gate receipts, and/or possibly be used to present an early summer celebration of Etta?s music on the old Burke County Courthouse Square, featuring many of Etta?s musical friends and colleagues.

If you can't attend, but would like to make a tax-deductible donation, send your check to:

The Etta Baker Fund/BAC c/o Burke Arts Council 115 East Meeting Street Morganton, NC 28655

***Rod Picott w/Rick Spreitzer & Kevin Edwards - March 23, 2005 - The Evening Muse
A night of songwriting celebrating the beauty and brutality of working-class America. An impressive night of honest and personal songwriting, beautifully crafted and emotionally delivered. John Tobler of Country Music People writes about Rod: ?Should he be on somewhere near you, you are urged to attend. There is something serene and reassuring about his voice, his songs and his guitar playing that made an impression on me.? With a smoky delivery and confident songwriting, I think Rod Picott will impress you, too. Rod's 3 CDs are consistently in the top 10 of the European Americana charts (frequently #1), and the top of the yearly charts. If you enjoy an evening of fine songwriting in a warm and intimate setting, this show is for you. I strongly urge you to come and see why I'm impressed by both of these talented songwriters. http://www.eveningmuse.com http://www.rickspreitzer.com http://www.rodpicott.com
