What: Charlie Sanchez, Jr.: Camposantos and Descansos of the Rio Abajo Area

When: Thursday, April 12, 2007 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Where: Old San Ysidro Church, Old Church Road, Corrales

DETAILS: Artist, historian and Santero Charlie Sanchez, Jr., will provide a multi-media presentation and talk on Camposantos (cemeteries) and Descansos (roadside shrines). His love of history and his home in the Tome area will be reflected in the research in this talk.

Mr. Sanchez is well known for his award winning straw appliqué crosses and other pieces. Mr. Sanchez’ work has been a featured at the Traditional Spanish Market held each July in Santa Fe as well as many others around the region for many years. His work can be seen in permanent collections throughout New Mexico and Colorado, including the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts, and the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe.

FURTHER INFORMATION: The program is free and open to the public. The Old Church is fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

DIRECTIONS: Take the Alameda exit (West) from I-25. From the intersection of Alameda Rd (NM 528) and Corrales Rd. (NM 448), go north for 3 miles to Old Church Rd, turn left (west) and proceed 0.3 miles to the Old Church.
