Charlie Chaplin said that The Gold Rush was the film he wanted to be remembered by and he got his wish. Chaplin’s adorable Little Tramp, a down-on-his-luck innocent, is one of the world’s most recognisable characters. As fresh and funny today as it was in 1925, The Gold Rush features some of Chaplin’s most inspired clowning (including famous set-pieces such as eating the boiled boot) and sharpest social satire, along with a dash of sentiment and a great deal of falling over. The sparkling restoration of the film is accompanied by the luscious musical score Chaplin composed for the film’s 1942 revival - a medley of popular, classical and original tunes to amplify the film’s touching scenes and brilliant comedy.
