Come Help Save Lives!!!

Join fellow Crocheters and Knitters for an afternoon of wonderful charity work, fun and refreshments.

I recently found out about a wonderful campaign called "Caps to the Capital" by: Save the Children and Warm Up America Foundations.

They are asking crocheters and knitters every where to make caps for newborn babies and donate them to their campaign to save the lives of babies around the world in developing countries. (Below is a clip from their information)

After reading the information I decided to get involved and now I would like to invite you to get involved also. If you can set aside a couple of hours one saturday afternoon you could help save the life of at least on child.

If you are not able to participate but would like to do something to help, we need donations of yarn to make the caps with. To donate please contact me anytime: Ann Rau 702-569-3156 or [email protected]

The event is casual, it will be on Saturday Sept.16 at Duck Creek Park on Pollock Dr. between E.Windmill Lane and Pebble in Las Vegas,89123.
It will start at 2pm and go for a couple of hours. There is a play area for kids and BBQ areas so if you want to bring the whole family feel free. Please give me a call if you plan on attending so I can plan refreshments accordingly.
If you would like to just show up that is fine, make sure to bring plenty of yarn and crochet or knitting needles. See you there.

My goal is to spread the word and get as many people involved as possible. My personal goal is to make 50 caps by January 1,2007 to be mailed January 2, 2007. If you would like more information on "Caps to the Capital" visit: www.savethechildren.org or www.warmupamerica.org
Look for "Caps to the Capital" and click on the link.

If you would like me to send you a PDF file with all the information, please send me an email with: "Caps to the Capital Info." in the subject bar. I will get it out right away.

If you have questions, would like to help organize this event or make a donation of yarn, please contact me at: 702-569-3156 or [email protected]
Thanks, Ann

Clip from the campaign info:Can something as simple as a knit or crochet cap help save a newborn life? In many poor countries, the answer is yes. Four million newborns die each year within the first month of life – half within only the first 24 hours after being born. But a package of simple health measures provided to mothers and babies worldwide, including antibiotics to fight infections, training for skilled birth attendants, immunizations against tetanus, education on breastfeeding and basic care such as drying a newborn baby and keeping it warm(this is where the caps come in!) could prevent 70 percent of these deaths. These babies need more than caps – they need your voice, too. The United States can lead the way in saving young lives by increasing funding for these critical health measures for mothers and children in developing countries. But we need your help. Let America’s leaders know that you’re willing to do your part, and together we can do much more.
YOUR CAP CAN HELP US SAVE A LIFE. YOUR VOICE CAN HELP US SAVE MILLIONS.
