Japan is at the turning point. The Japanese economy still stagnates, the DPJ administration staggers, and Japan-U.S. relations are strained. What implications does the newly-elected Kan's premiership have on the DPJ government, Japan's future, and international relations between Japan, the U.S., and China? Dr. Hiroki Takeuchi, an SMU professor and an expert on politics of East Asia, will discuss changes of economy, politics, and society in Japan, and provide insights into Japan's role in the world in the twenty-first century.

Assistant Professor of Political Science and Fellow of the John G. Tower Center of Political Studies at Southern Methodist University
