In conjunction with the “From the Ground Up XXIV” exhibition, artist Blair Meerfeld is conducting a two day ceramics workshop titled “Pots from Parts” at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. Sponsored by the Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces and New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists, the workshop is Saturday, September 5, from 9 am – 5 pm and Sunday, September 6, from 10 am – 3 pm. The cost for the two day program is $50.00. To register, please contact the Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces via John Northcutt at (575) 373-0043 or Barbara Williams at (575) 522-2342.

Blair Meerfeld has been a professional studio potter for many years and is now resident of Santa Fe. His work, inspired by industrial containers such as oil cans, is primarily functional wood fired stoneware. He will be teaching his technique of creating complex works by throwing separate pieces to later assemble into one finished ceramic object. This approach often leads to abstraction and new interpretations in otherwise functional pots.

“From the Ground Up XXIV,” a regional exhibition juried by Blair Meerfeld, is on display at the Las Cruces Museum of Art from September 4 to November 7. Over sixty ceramic artists from the Rocky Mountain Region are featured.

Funded by the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street, at the north end of the downtown mall. Exhibits are accessible and free of charge. For information, call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website www.museums.las-cruces.org.
