Art historian Dr. Mary Sweeney Ellet provides a guided tour through "Gardens Since Eden" on Monday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street. This is the final program in this seasons Centuries of Art @ Your Library free lecture series sponsored by This Century Gallery in partnership with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Williamsburg Regional Library. Reservations are not needed for this free program. For more information, contact the library at (757) 259-4070 or This Century Art Gallery at (757) 229-4949.

For centuries artists have painted the gardens of the world, both real and imaginary. Dr. Ellet's slide-lecture offers a tour through artists' gardens from ancient Rome to medieval castle gardens, from the fantastic visions of Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights to the Sun King's magnificent Versailles, and to Monet's personal paradise at Giverny.

Dr. Ellet earned her MA and PhD from the University of Virginia and served as director of the Adult Degree Program and Community Education at Randolph-Macon Woman's College (now Randolph College).

Centuries of Art @ Your Library is made possible through This Century Art Gallery's partnership program with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). It has been organized by the Office of Statewide Partnerships of the VMFA and is supported by the Paul Mellon Endowment.
