“The Sway Machinery makes the ancient modern and the mythological real.” - The Village Voice

San Francisco, CA – JDub Records, home to Matisyahu, Balkan Beat Box and Michael Showalter, is excited to present a multimedia celebration of the Jewish New Year with a Jewish indie rock band The Sway Machinery. The event will take place at the historic Temple Emanu-El at 10PM on September, 19th 2009. Admission is FREE, and there will be an OPEN BAR reception in the courtyard of the temple before the show at 9PM.

This event is a singular opportunity to experience the Jewish New Year in a completely new way—one that abandons the staid, old-fashioned approach of traditional Judaism and revives Rosh Hashanah traditions with avant-garde performance art and music. This spectacle is undoubtedly perfect for a cultural venue such as SFMOMA or YBCA; however, the band decided to using a space with worship implicit in its design.

The Sway Machinery's lineup features a vibrant array of musicians; led by vocalist and guitarist Jeremiah Lockwood of Balkan Beat Box, along with John Bollinger on drums, noted tenor sax player Matt Bauder and touring member of The Arcade Fire and frequent Tom Waits collaborator Colin Stetson on bass saxophone.

The performance will also feature a screening of Guggenheim Fellow Shawn Atkins' animated short film depicting the dawn of monotheism, The Akeidah.
