Cecily Brown's passion for the medium of painting has resulted in grand and ambitious canvases revealing her respect for and inspiration from the history of art. From Goya, Poussin and the British landscape painters to the abstraction of de Kooning and Mitchell, Brown excavates the past while reinvigorating 21st century painting with a feminine viewpoint. Brown rigorously addresses the figure and human flesh, creating unashamedly luscious paintings that range between figuration and abstraction. This exhibition includes eighteen canvases, some quite large, surveying Brown's mature work from 1997 to the present.
