CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE DIVINE WELCOMES THE NEW YEAR WITH ANNUAL NEW YEAR’S EVE CONCERT FOR PEACE

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine will ring in 2013 with a celebration of light and song at the 33rd annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace on Monday, December 31st at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.

Special guest Judy Collins will join the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra for this evening of seasonal masterpieces, among them Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Mendelssohn’s Verleigh uns Frieden (Grant us Peace) and Bruckner’s motets. Renowned soloists Jamet Pittman, soprano; Kirsten Sollek, contralto; Steven Fox, tenor; and Peter Stewart, baritone, will also perform. The celebration of music, dance and prayer will be illuminated by the light of candles held by thousands of audience members. NBC Correspondent Harry Smith will host the night’s event.

The annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace was founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984 and has become one of the Cathedral’s most celebrated events.
