April 16; 2pm & 8pm

Everyone can use a night out on the town - or afternoon - now and then, and Livermore Valley Opera has the perfect offering to do just that with its original "mini" opera, "Night Out", Saturday, April 16, at the Firehouse Arts Center in downtown Pleasanton.

Details are as follows: Two performances:
2pm, Firehouse Kids program; and 8pm, General audience; reception 7pm.

Now in its 19th season, Livermore Valley Opera continues to be an opera company to be taken seriously. At the Firehouse, the company takes a short break from fully staged traditional opera to create a fun-loving music melodrama. This mini opera is a creative collaboration between LVO's Executive Director Sara Nealy and Music Director Alexander Katsman.

"Night Out" is the story of couple Mimi and Miles who are primed for their big night out in a diner on Main Street. Described by Nealy as a "frothy comedy" with music direction by Alexander Katsman, audiences will enjoy a good laugh along with some of the world's best-loved arias. The diners encounter the stylish Rupert and Remy during their date and a waitress with an attitude, creating a fun-loving music melodrama starring nationally-recognized principal opera singers. The performance is presented in one act, without an intermission, with an opportunity for the audience to ask the cast questions after the performance.

Rising opera singer, tenor David Gustafson, will play the part of Miles. Gustafson, who has performed in LVO's "Die Fledermaus" in 2010 and will again other opera events, is currently a member of the San Francisco Opera. He is joined by soprano Heidi Moss who portrays Mimi, Miles' date for the night out at the diner. Also starring are mezzo soprano Julie Anne Miller, baritone Bojan Knezevic and actress Paula Wujek as the waitress.
