One of the most influential films ever made and generally regarded as the start of the American independent cinema movement, John Cassavetes’ directorial debut revolves around an interracial romance between a light-skinned black woman and a white man. The relationship crumbles when the truth about her racial heritage is discovered. Shot with a cast and crew made up primarily of amateurs, Shadows is a visionary work, and will be presented in a restored 35mm print. (1959, 81 min, 35mm)
