London Coliseum, St Martin's Lane
London, England WC2N 4ES

Bizet's tale of a sultry Spanish temptress and the murderous jealousy of her lovers is one of the few operas that is equally loved by audiences and critics. No wonder. It's packed with back-to-back memorable tunes bound together by genuine drama and convincing characters. This lavish production at The Coliseum is directed by Sally Potter - who is more used to directing films and is probably best known for her Oscar nominated adaptation of Orlando, based on Virginia Woolf's classic novel. This is her first foray into opera and you can expect to see cinematic sets courtesy of designer Es Devlin, complemented by modern moves created with help from tango choreographer Pablo Veron. It's also the first time British mezzo-soprano Alice Coote will play Carmen while Australian tenor Julian Gavin and American soprano Katie Van Kooten co-star. One thing is for sure, this rich opera filled with crimes of passion can always be relied on to spice up your night out.
