Carlos Varela is one who sings the reality of Cuban youth with their "strengths and weaknesses", his music and his work are the most representative of the so-called newest Cuban trova.

Carlos Varela was born in Havana on April 11, 1963. He began to write his first songs from the year 1978 and 1980 and is part of the Nueva Trova Movement. Since then begins to act on the most important part of Cuba to become one of the most popular musicians on the island, capable of holding large crowds in their presentations.
Together with other young singers Carlos Varela creates its own space within the Cuban cultural scene of the 80s, both the public and the critics defined as newest trova. Within this movement Varela is highlighted by the urban sense and chronicler of his lyrics, for its mise en scene, as well as his discography with a sound closer to rock than the typical Cuban music.
