Scientist and award-winning author Carl Safina, PhD, co-founder and president of the Blue Ocean Institute, discusses "History and Destiny in a Changing Ocean; What it Means for You." This event is free and open to the public.

In a talk that is part science lecture, part biography, and part book-reading, Safina will discuss the role of fishing, fish farming, and climate in our changing oceans. He will discuss the implications of these changes for both sea life and human communities.

Though long thought limitless, the the limits of the ocean have been found. Many fish populations have been depleted, and total world catches are declining. But there is hope. Recent good news indicates that downward trends are beginning to reverse in some areas, with some recoveries underway due to improved management and greatly increased public awareness. Safina also will discuss how our choice of seafood can add momentum to a new movement of consumer-led efforts to improve fisheries and restore abundant marine life.

And he will discuss the moral imperative of climate change.
