A typical picture postcard has an image on one side and the reverse side is divided for the address and sender's message. Artists were given cards with the reverse side printed for address and message and a blank side where they were expected to make an image. The result: drawings, coloured compositions, sketches, etchings and printed photographs. The 'Artist Picture Postcards' - in two sizes 4x6 inches and 5x7 inches - are priced in an affordable range keeping in mind the democratic nature of traditional picture postcards. In the age of e-cards, SMS and video chat the idea of picture postcards seems obsolete. Yet it remains a charming souvenir that as tourists we are always attracted to. Vintage postcards that are now collectibles provide a visual history of people, culture, trends, and interests of a bygone era. Besides topographical scenes, such postcards cover a gamut of subjects that are captured in a nutshell. A genre of artists has dedicated their careers to making images and illustrations for postcards or souvenir cards, as they were also called. For Card-O-Logy contemporary artists inspired by the tradition and the compactness of picture postcards have created images of themes and subjects that preoccupy them at this point in time. Art is a reflection of contemporary times and people, much as picture postcards reveal aspects of the bygone era. Through the 'Artist Picture Postcards' that are original works of art, this exhibition hopes to offer in an intimate size a bit of history to the future generations. Another aspect of this exhibition is the emphasis on creating a unique the viewing experience. Viewers will be compelled to browse through the large collection of 'Artist Picture Postcards' and discover each, one at a time rather than consume a show in one glance. A deliberate attempt is being made to get the viewers to explore what is on view, give time and absorb the works.
