Poverty has a woman’s face: ActionAid at capitalwoman 2007
“Women and girls are often the biggest losers in today's world, making up the poorest of the poor. Yet ActionAid shows, that no matter how terrible their circumstances and their story, most women possess the universal talent to just get on with it. International Women's Day gives us the opportunity to offer our support." Jo Brand
ActionAid has worked for decades to help women fight discrimination and lift themselves out of poverty. At Capitalwoman, ActionAid will expose the global abuse of women’s rights, whilst celebrating the strength of the extraordinary women who are trying to create a fairer and more just world.
ActionAid’s Face the Truth exhibition will be on display to delegates in the architectural café space in the Benjamin Brittan Lounge. The charity also has a stall at the event.
Face the Truth is a retrospective photographic exhibition featuring images of women whom ActionAid works with. Compelling photography is juxtaposed with graphic text and statistics revealing the harsh reality of poverty and inequality, and what women are doing to overcome this.
Every year, capitalwoman brings London women of all ages and backgrounds together to discuss the issues affecting them. This year the theme is “The world’s women in London.”
