Design Within Reach's Boston Studio has invited Peter McMahon, principal of PM Design in South Wellfleet, Massachusetts to present an exhibition and lecture on the Cape Cod Modern House Trust. This exhibition is a modest survey of 27 projects and features historic photographs, drawings and printed matter, as well as newly commissioned photographs by Mark Walker and Bill Lyons. It includes Jack Phillips, "The Paper Palace" (circa 1938-39), the first experimental structure built in Wellfleet, as well as houses by internationally recognized architects Marcel Breuer, Olav Hammarstrom, Serge Chermayeff, Walter Gropius (TAC) and Paul Weidlinger. The projects also include those by local Modernists with deep roots in New England such as, Saltonstall and Morton, Paul Krueger and Charles Zehnder.

Diverse pressures are endangering the Modernist legacy of the Outer Cape. These issues were the primary motivation to found the Cape Cod Modern House Trust, to identify and document these Modernist projects and to advocate and facilitate preservation of significant examples of this heritage. Please join us in welcoming Peter McMahon and discovering the hidden Modernist gems of the Outer Cape that lie "within our reach." Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.
