Canterbury Anifest is an animation festival that takes place every November at the Gulbenkian Theatre on the University of Kent campus. As Kent’s first animation festival, originally launched in 2007, the Canterbury Anifest offers the opportunity to see a wide array of works, ranging from Animal Farm to Shaun the Sheep, as well as to attend workshops hosted by Britain’s leading animation industry professionals. Furthermore, the festival provides the chance for aspiring animators to screen their work and compete for a number of awards. Such a diverse programme will appeal to people of all ages with a variety of different interests. It will communicate to people the varied role of animation today, engaging children in its delights, illustrating its use in audio-visual media generally, for example in live action film and gaming and exploring its relationship with politics and history. The festival is taking place between Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November 2009. Prices and times for the events over the two days will vary and have yet to be confirmed. A programme of the events taking place will soon be available. For the first time the festival will be showcasing work from across the nation in the competitive shorts screening, celebrating the abundance of talent in the UK. Anyone interested in submitting their work should visit the website for an application form. The closing date for entries is 30th September 2009.
