Candy Man
Starring
Wayne Scott Kermond

at the Theatre Royal from June 27
9 Performances only

After sell out seasons in Brisbane and Perth, Wayne Scott Kermond’s new production Candy Man is a dynamic all dancing and all singing infused celebration of the life and music of Sammy Davis Jr. Candy Man will play a limited season at the Theatre Royal from June 27.

“Its very exciting, I can’t wait to perform the show in my home town,” said Wayne. “We just had a fantastic season in Brisbane at The Queensland Performing Arts Centre with standing ovations at every show, so it’s time to go for it and hit the big smoke of Sydney!“

Candy Man features an eight piece Big Band, a cast of musical theatre performers and a Youth Choir - set amongst Las Vegas nightclubs, concert halls, musicals and films and with a twist of Vaudeville, all of which characterised Davis Jr’s career. The show offers an intimate insight into Davis Jr’s own struggle and triumph over his doubts and fears while also being two and half hours of pure entertainment.

Candy Man features all the songs that audiences around the world have sung along with including, Mr Bojangles, Singin’ in the Rain, Rhythm of Life, What Kind of Fool Am I, Hey There, Candy Man and many more.

Wayne Scott Kermond grew up in a showbiz family and has a myriad of musical experience behind him and has performed around the world. He is the recipient of four MO Awards and has long wanted to have the honour of paying homage to the ultimate Song & Dance Man, Sammy Davis Jr.

“Sammy’s life in show business and mine are quite similar,” said Wayne "it’s kind of a story of parallels”.

Kermond was inspired when in 1986 after performing in Guys and Dolls. Sammy Davis Jr, who had been an audience member approached him in the Green Room and said “Man, you are one cool dancer. Keep it up, cos we need young cats like you to take over from old cats like me.”

You’re in for a rare treat, genuine entertainment… served up by one of Australia’s premiere Music Theatre performers, Wayne Scott Kermond, and his brilliant cast… [Wayne] does share Sammy’s vaudevillian family background, his diverse performance skills… and most importantly, his unique ability to entertain.
