Oscar nominated Canadian film, MONSIEUR LAZHAR, which swept the Genies (the Canadian Oscars) with 6 awards this year, opens with a special event on Friday, April 13, at 7:00 pm, exclusively at The Coral Gables Art Cinema.

To celebrate the opening night, Director, Philippe Falardeau will introduce the 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm screenings via a live video-link connection. Welcome remarks will be given by Canadian Consul General, Louise Léger, at the 7:00 pm screening.

A 9:00 pm reception will be held between the two screenings in the Cinema's lobby and outdoor plaza for anyone who purchases a ticket for either show. The reception includes culinary delights courtesy of Maroosh Mediterranean Restaurant, award-winning mini indulgences courtesy of Seasons 52, and an open bar courtesy of Bacardi.

MONSIEUR LAZHAR is a powerful and surprising film that tells the poignant story of a Montreal middle school class shaken by the sudden death of their well-liked teacher. Bachir Lazhar (Fellag), a 55-year-old Algerian immigrant, offers the school his services as a substitute teacher and is quickly hired. As he helps the children heal, he also learns to accept his own painful past. With Quebecois director Philippe Falardeau's simple delicate touch, the emotionally gripping film explores loss, exile, and the preciousness of life, and features exquisite performances by Fellag and an amazing ensemble of child actors.

Special ticket prices for this event are $20 general admission and can be purchased in advance online at www.gablescinema.com, or in-person at the Cinema box office.

MONSIEUR LAZHAR continues with a regular engagement at the Coral Gables Art Cinema. All regular screening tickets are $11 and under and are only available in person at the box office.

Coral Gables Art Cinema is located at 260 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables, FL 33134.
