Project Read-Menlo Park is having its first restaurant fundraiser on Friday, February 5th from 6-8 p.m. at Café Zoe, 1929 Menalto Ave, Menlo Park, California.

Bay area musicians Chris Jones and Monsters are not Myths will be performing. Chris Jones is a retro-revival songwriter whose diverse and immense repertoire covers all bases. Monsters are not Myths combines rock, folk, blues and an insatiable appetite for the ridiculous. Catch these wonderful musicians and show your support for Project Read.

Cafe Zoe received the 2009 Almanac Reader’s Choice Award for Best Café and Live Music. The Cafe will donate twenty-five percent of sales to Project Read-Menlo Park that evening.

Project Read has been serving the Menlo Park community with a free library-based literacy program since 1985. Volunteer tutors are trained to work one-to-one with adults to help them improve reading, writing, and pronunciation skills in English. It is funded by the City of Menlo Park, California Library Literacy Services, Friends of the Menlo Park Library, and local contributions. Currently, there are over 90 tutors and 125 learners. Improving adult literacy builds a stronger community in many ways:

· Adults can get and keep good jobs with family-sustaining wages.

· Businesses are able to increase productivity by employing better-skilled workers.

· Parents, reading to their children, can raise the level of literacy for the next generation.
