2 Foundry Square
Leeds, England

Guest speakers: Patrick Henry (Director, Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool) in conversation with Dr Derek Horton
The Engine House Cafe, 2 Foundry Square, Leeds, LS11 5DL
Tuesday 14 October 2008 from 7.30pm

Cafe Artistique is free and there is no need to book.
Come along, have a drink and join in the discussion.

Patrick Henry will give a brief survey of the development and importance of contemporary photography galleries since the 1970's. Artist/writer Dr Derek Horton will contribute his thoughts about photography as contemporary art practice and question its medium-specific value. The guest speakers will open the discussion up to the audience to explore further ideas including the place of the photograph as 'art'.

Joe Mawson will be the Cafe Artistique artist-in-residence for the evening.
He will reconstruct 'Downfall, 2007' by Alex Hartley by constructing a scale diorama from cardboard and re-photographing it. He intends to examine how the work can be used to imagine the content of the Cafe Artistique event and suggest how the currency of conceptual photographic work operates outside of its original context.
