Texas Rangers pitcher C.J. Wilson will host C.J. Wilson’s Guitar Hero® Metallica® Madness & Backstage Bash benefiting C.J. Wilson Children’s Charities and Texas Hemophilia Camp on Thursday, May 28 at 5 p.m. at 8.0 Restaurant & Bar at 111 East Third St.

Contestants will have the chance to demonstrate their Guitar Hero skills and compete for prizes including two front row seats at the Metallica concert in Dallas in September, tickets to Texas Ranger home games, video games and more. Event attendees also can make a donation to enter a raffle that will include Southwest Airlines roundtrip tickets and Texas Ranger autographed memorabilia. All proceeds will benefit C.J. Wilson Children’s Charities and the Texas Hemophilia Camp.

During the tournament, contestants will move along based on high scores, and the top five players will be evaluated by a panel of judges. Contestants’ total points earned will be based on a weighted scale consisting of skill, score and showmanship, and competitors are encouraged to dress as a member of Metallica to increase their showmanship score. Guest judges include Wilson, Shaun Dodge from The Galloway Show on ESPN and Chris Ryan from 97.1 The Eagle. The competition is sponsored by Activision, Game Stop, Southwest Airlines, the Texas Rangers Foundation, ESPN Radio, 97.1 The Eagle , 102.1 The Edge and CSL Behring.

The tournament will last from 6 to 10 p.m. and is open to all ages. Following the tournament, a “Backstage Bash” will be open for attendees 21 and older. Wilson will DJ during the bash. Tournament registration opens at 5 p.m., and the competition begins at 6.

PLEASE do not display it as a Guitar Hero Competition when the judges do not base their decisions on points!!!! My friend's points were literally 400,000 points higher than the winners and he did not win anything!!! That's great thing that it is a charity event; but it is disappointing and misleading to say it's "BASED ON HIGH SCORES" which was obviously not the case!!

This guy is just mad because a 16 year old won =p and the top five had over 500 Thousand. plus we could only play on medium, if i were you and you have a xbox live account add CarBonKi11A0 (last character is a zero) to you friends list and i can tell you how it went down. this friend of elel82 was beat by 400,000 and if he is talking about the finals it dealt with showmanship rather then on score because no one wants to see a person on stage sitting and doing nothing. o and by the way i was the one who won the contest. and my myspace name is Phayn so add me or do w/e.
