Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Buried Child was the first full length play ever produced by the Roadhouse Theatre. Way back in the summer of 1988 the Roadhouse mounted Sam Shepards brilliant and powerful drama on its tiny stage at 1505 State Street. The play was a perfect match for a fledgling off-Broadway style theatre group; under the facade of wholesome, hard working, God-fearing family values lie dark secrets, forbidden desires, and emotional turmoil.

Twenty years later, as a celebration of our survival, we offer Shepards recently revised version of the play on the stage at the newly reorganized Theatre 145. In revision Shepard keeps a very dark vision, but he clothes this bleak portrait in a unique combination of genuinely funny comedic dialogue, puzzling and unresolved contradictions, and an atmosphere charged with foreboding, menace and a greater threat of violence than before.

The Roadhouse Theatres 20th Anniversary production of Buried Child will boast some of the best actors in the region. Among the accomplished cast members are Roadhouse favorites Aaron Pacy, Mike Bush and Jerry Brace, with Janet Whelpley, Lauren Glass and newcomer R. David Pratte. Rounding out the ensemble is the Roadhouses own Scott McClelland in a role that we guarantee you will never forget!

To commemorate our 20th Anniversary, we will be offering a free performance of Buried Child for anyone who has ever performed in or worked on a Roadhouse Theatre production. Reservations will be required for this show and a reception will follow the performance. And for anyone who has worked with the theatre but cant make the show, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you and all of the people who have supported the Roadhouse Theatre over the last two decades.
