Build the Bay Area Ridge Trail with V-O-Cal & Muir Heritage Land Trust June 6, 2009

Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-Cal) & Muir Heritage Land Trust are partnering with the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council to build a new section of Ridge Trail on Fernandez Ranch. Up to 200 volunteers will build trail & camp out on this beautiful open space. You are welcome to join one day or camp for the weekend. V-O-Cal projects allow volunteers to participate in a number of capacities: trail workers, cooks, kitchen & registration helpers, camp & tool managers are needed to make this project a success. Tools & training, & free camping provided for volunteers, along with meals Saturday & Sunday.

The Bay Area Ridge Trail will be a 550+ mile trail circling the San Francisco Bay along the ridge tops, open to hikers, equestrians & bicyclists, with over 315 miles of trail open today. The Bay Area Ridge Trail Council is the nonprofit that plans, acquires, builds, & promotes the Ridge Trail. For more information see www.ridgetrail.org

Volunteers for Outdoor California is an environmental stewardship organization focused on trail maintenance & construction, and habitat restoration. V-O-Cal engages the community through large-scale projects on public lands. For their weekend long projects, V-O-Cal provides volunteers with camping, food & entertainment to promote a festive atmosphere. Since launching in 2006, V-O-Cal has built and restored many miles of trail in Northern California. A number of 2009 projects will be on the Bay Area Ridge Trail. 702-acre Fernandez Ranch was purchased by Muir Heritage Land Trust in 2005, with assistance from the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council. The Trust has been working to acquire lands and land preservation agreements since 1988. The Trust focuses on land preservation & environmental education needs within Contra Costa County.
