The First International Buddhist College Buddhist Studies Conference.

This conference will take place in Penang, MALAYSIA and is generously funded by the International Buddhist College (IBC), Hatyai, THAILAND and its parent organization, Than Hsiang Temple, Penang, MALAYSIA.

The theme of the conference - "Aspects of Buddhist Studies" - is
deliberately broad so that the papers presented at this conference will interest a wide spectrum of audiences in the region. This conference is intended as an introduction for the Malaysian public to Buddhist Studies as a modern, academic, field of studies. It will also serve as an opportunity for the IBC to be acquainted with international Buddhist scholars and vice-versa and to plant the seeds for future collaborations and projects. Due to logistical reasons, we have elected to highlight
scholars who are mostly trained in the West although their respective national origins are varied. It is the intention of the IBC to host future conferences highlighting the contributions of scholars trained in Asia and conferences that bring together the two.

About two dozen scholars have been invited to present papers at this
conference. Other scholars and interested parties are cordially invited to attend this conference.
