Humber Theatre is pleased to announce their upcoming fall production of Brothers Grimm, opening at the Humber College Studio Theatre on Friday, November 28th, 2008. Brothers Grimm is directed by Dean Gilmour and Michelle Smith, of acclaimed Theatre Smith-Gilmour, and co-created with Humber Theatre Students. Brothers Grimm aims to break down preconceived notions surrounding these fairy tales, and stimulate the imaginations of the audience.

Focusing on the inherent naivety of the Grimm fairy tales, directors Gilmour and Smith, aided by assistant director Dan Watson, use the physicality of their actors to create imaginative landscapes, relating stories of growth and experience. Working with the violence expressed in the Grimm fairy tales, which separates these characteristic fairy tales from those of mainstream popularity, Brothers Grimm explores how these strange, mythical stories speak to the violence we experience in daily life. The sense of innocence and discovery is furthered through the artistic designs of costume and set designer Julia Tribe, and lighting designer Beth Kates.

Brothers Grimm runs November 28th, 29th, and December 2nd to 6th, at 8 pm, with matinees at 2 pm on November 30th and December 6th. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students/seniors, and $5 for alumni). Tickets are available by through Humber Studio Theatre Box Office 416.675.6622x 3080 in advance, or at the door.
