The Spartan was selected by ART/NY as one of 15 Off-Broadway theatres to present work-in-progress at City University of New York?s (CUNY?s) Graduate Center Recital Hall on Saturday, October 4th from 6-7:30pm.

As a season preview, Greenpoint?s The Spartan Theatre will perform staged readings of two 1-act comedies: Freedom?s Bird ( by Williamsburg, Brooklyn native and author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith) and Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Chaz (by Greenpoint playwright, Robert Grady). A 15 minute Q & A session will follow.

The Spartan will offer three of Smith?s one-acts in mid-November at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center.

Admission is free, and the Graduate Center is directly across from the Empire State Building.
