Nobody knows rats like a New Yorker, and city born-and-bred composer John Corigliano is no exception. Corigliano, inspired by poet Robert Browning's telling of the the Pied Piper legend, crafted his masterful "Pied Piper Fantasy" around this most feared four-legged motif. With "Piper" Alexa Still on flute and tin whistle, this acclaimed concerto is an unrestricted imagining of an age-old fantasy. The evening closes with Berlioz's Romantic masterpiece, "Symphonie Fantastique" - a hallucinatory musical expedition into heartache, psychedelic dreams, and macabre fantasies.
