**** Bria's Hot Five turn up the heat at Stomp it Off!, June 7th **** June 7, 2008

Vancouver’s own and favourite Hot Jazz band, Bria’s Hot Five, will once again grace the stage at Stomp it Off! this Saturday, June 7th. Join us for a drop-in Swing dance lesson from 8pm to 9pm and then dance the night away to the swingin’ sounds of Bria and her Band. Cover charge is $17 at the door. We’re located at the Grandview Legion Auditorium, 2205 Commercial Drive with doors at 7:45pm.

Bria Skonberg, band leader, trumpet player and songstress, is the up and coming jazz musician in Western Canada. Playing with the likes of Dal Richards and the Big Bang Jazz Band, Bria has become the darling of the Vancouver jazz scene and has played alongside such greats as Cedar Walton, Ed Thigpen, Rob McConnell, and Jimmy Heath.

Bria has also founded an all female six piece jazz band, The Mighty Aphrodite Jazz Band, with good friend and reed player Claire McKenna. This group has appeared at the Sacramento Jubilee, Arizona Classic, Mammoth Lakes Jubilee, Pentastic Jazz Festival, and the Elkhart Jazz Festival, as well as the Jazz Fest at Sea Cruise and with Jazzdagen in 2007.

She has made appearances as a bandleader and guest artist in North America, Europe, and Asia. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the CBC Jazz Award of Merit (2006), and the coveted Kobe Jazz Street Friendship Award, presented at the Breda Jazz Festival in 2007. Early in 2008 she was a guest on Riverwalk Jazz with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, representing the “next generation of jazz”.

Stomp it Off! is Vancouver’s premier swing dance event! Join other 20 and 30 somethings for a great night of music, dancing and socializing. We feature the city’s top Dj’s and dancers in a warm and friendly environment. Take the plunge. Come out this Saturday to the Grandview Legion Auditorium, 2205 Commercial Drive, and experience live music and swing dancing, Jungle Swing style.
