In 2007, Jazz trumpeter Brian Lynch won the Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year Grammy for his collaboration with Eddie Palmieri. Lynch is currently based in New York, but he grew up in Milwaukee and trained with Buddy Montgomery and Melvin Rhyne at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. He then went to San Diego and played in alto master Charles McPherson's group for a short time before moving to New York in 1981. He has since become a hot name in the New York scene, having played with the Horace Silver Quintet, the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Phil Woods, Benny Golson, Barbarito Torres, Eddie Palmieri and many others.
