Breaking Through the Crust

An Intelligent and Insightful Workshop on Personal Identity, Introspection and Connection
In the midst of acute suffering in the world, in our city and our own lives How does a beautiful lotus flower arise out of muddy water?

January 26 10 am to 1:30 pm @ Village Zendo

Confusion often pervades our attempts to deal with dissatisfactions in life. When our sense of self is challenged — by personal stresses and professional setbacks, by health issues, by ideas and fears that we may not know how to understand — the stifling patterns of destructive thought can be a difficult thing to stop. Join us for a workshop that teaches a new body-mind language that allows people to directly reconnect with their ability to function effectively. This awareness work is undoubtedly the most important endeavor in human life. Based on the pioneering techniques of psychoanalyst Stanley Block, MD, and his book, Come to Your Senses, the workshop explains the Identity System (I-System), a fresh approach to breaking through limitations and allowing the natural self to thrive. How does it work? By simply "connecting with your senses" (taste, smell, touch, sight, and sound), participants will be able to recognize — and overcome — that constant mental tug-of-war that promotes defeat and depression. It’s a fact that the mind and thought are the origin of many forms of illness and physical dysfunction; using I-System techniques, alcoholics have started their transformation within days; athletes have improved performance; obese patients have lost weight and kept it off; and everyday people have altered their lives, within hours, in profound ways.

This workshop is led by Jules Shuzen Harris, Ed. D., who has more than 25 years experience as an educator and psychotherapist, and is one of the first people certified to teach this method by Dr. Block. Shuzen is also a Zen teacher (Shiho) empowered by Enkyo Roshi of Soto and Rinzai lineage at Soji Zen Center in Lansdowne, PA.
