Real Cities: A Symposium on Brazilian Urbanism

As the opening to the exhibit “Building Connections—Brazilian Design for Real Cities,” this special event features the Consul General of Brazil in Chicago, the Honorable João Almino, and exhibit curator Marcelo Aflalo. Also present will be notable architect/urban designers Jorge Wilheim, Fernanda Barbara, Rosa Kliass, and Jaime Lerner, who will present a keynote and discussion.

“Building Connections - Brazilian Design for Real Cities”

Free & open to the public, the exhibit will be on display in the Instituto Cervantes Gallery through November 10, 2010.

Urban acupuncture, transportation networks, city master plans, and innovative landscape interventions—these are all design strategies investigated in this unique exhibition Construindo Conexões: Desenho Brasileiro para Cidades Reais (the Portuguese translation) is a transcultural design platform for architects, urban designers, artists and city residents to discuss innovation within Brazilian urbanism.
