Brave Combo Returns to Davey’s Uptown Rambler’s Club
on December 16
With a Holiday Extravaganza to Kick the Season into High Gear

Denton, Texas’ Brave Combo makes a Ho-Ho-Ho! return visit to DAVEY’S UPTOWN RAMBLER CLUB on Thursday, December 16 with a Holiday Extravaganza of good music, good cheer, and more fun than a barrel of sleigh rides. The party starts at 9:00 p.m. and tickets are $10.

Brave Combo, now in its 31st year, has released over 30 albums, including several holiday collections. Christmas Present features a wealth of styles, including a cha cha cha take on “We Three Kings,” “Feliz Navidad” dressed up as a cumbia, a twisting twist on “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and the samba parade of “O Christmas Tree.” Combo’s most recent album, Kikiriki (pronounced kee-kee-reé-kee) was released in 2010. It finds the band all over the map: from the Serbian brass band infused title track, to the polka-swinging rendition of “Just Because,” to a haunting, rain-drenched take on the “Polish National Anthem” and beyond. Who else could make happy bedfellows of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” the Bee Gees “Holiday,” and a traditional Russian waltz? Leave it to Brave Combo.
Over the course of its career, Brave Combo has won two Grammys, worked with David Byrne on his True Stories cult classic, been animated for an episode of The Simpsons, had songs featured in numerous TV and film soundtracks, and redefined givens of “world music” as a genre. Polka, salsa, rock, cumbia, conjunto, cha cha cha, and tango are only a few of the styles the band has made its own, and always with a distinctly Brave Combo-esque touch. They’ve been called “America’s Premier Dance Band” for good reason—a typical night will have even the stodgiest audience member joining a conga line or discovering his inner Chicken Dancer.
Band members are keyboardist, guitarist, accordionist, and singer Carl Finch, Jeffrey Barnes on woodwinds, sax, harmonica, and vocals, Danny O’Brien, trumpet and vocals, drummer Alan Emert, and Little Jack Melody on electric bass and vocals.
Don’t miss Brave Combo at Davey’s on December, 16; showtime is 9:00 p.m., doors at 7:00. Tickets are $10. 3402 Main Street, Kansas City, MO, 64111: telephone for tickets and information is (816) 753-1909; www.daveysuptown.com and www.brave.com/bo.
