In November of 2006, local musician KC Turner and local business owner Henry Hautau brainstormed the idea of having an Open Mic Night in Novato. For the past 4 years, that idea has blossomed into hundreds of opportunities for Marin & bay area locals to gather in a friendly atmosphere and to share their music. Countless new friendships, ideas, laughs and good times have been created on Monday nights in Novato, California. Thanks to Turner’s dedication to the local scene and Hautau’s love for his community – Finnegan’s Marin has been a place that locals call home and where open mic’rs feel at ease.

“We have even had our share of celebrities”, Turner says. To name a few, the open mic night has drawn, Dr. Elmo (creator of “Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer”) the drummer of “The Fray” and even Tommy Tutone (867-5309)! Needless to say this weekly event has received the attention of a wide audience. Turner says, “We have had some amazing performers come throughout the years. I have lost count of how many folks have told me it was there first time ever performing in front of a live audience. I have seen kids come in 14, 15 years old…and they are 19 now and are still coming back! That’s enough time for voices to change an octave or two!” He continues, “We have created a family here and I am so proud to be part of the Novato community every Monday night.” Despite residing in San Francisco, Turner says that he has no problem making that commute every Monday night. In his own words, “You never know what kind of magic is going to happen this week”.

Open Mic @ Finnegan’s Marin every Monday Night @ 8pm for 4 years and going!
