The Film Company and Vitagraph Films is pleased to announce the release of Director Guy Maddin’s latest feature film BRAND UPON THE BRAIN! In an unprecedented act of faith in the enduring power of the theatrical experience, BRAND UPON THE BRAIN! will be presented as an expansive live event in select cities, with an 11-piece LIVE orchestra, a 5-piece LIVE Foley (sound effects) team a LIVE celebrity narrator, and Castrato supplementing the filmic image to comprise a one-of-a-kind cinematic spectacle.



Brand Upon the Brain! In which the shocking truth is finally revealed about young Guy Maddin and his hellish childhood on a remote island, under the hyper-watchful eye of a crazed mother hellbent on restoring her youth and a diabolically distant scientist-father, proprietors of a mom-and-pop orphanage they surreptitiously operate within the dank confines of the family lighthouse. Watch! as the sex instinct grabs hold of young Maddin and his sister! Thrill! as the Mysteries of the Light House are divined by teen detectives! Reel! at the headstrong invention and heart-stopping rhythms of the elder Maddin¹s heroic silent moviemaking!!

In addition to an 11-piece orchestra, three Foley Artists, and a Castrato, the live version of Brand upon the Brain includes an Interlocutor, or Narrator, who acts almost as another instrument in the sound mix. We have been very fortunate in finding sparkling, independent voices to fill this role.
