“Brain Chemistry for Lovers” (Feb. 16 at the Newmark Theater) is a unique blend of cabaret, orchestra and…science lecture?? The show is all about the chemicals (Dopamine, Seratonin, Oxytocyn, etc.) produced as we go through the various stages of love (Lust, Attraction, Attachment, Rejection, etc.) – all set to music from the great American songbook as performed by NU SHOOZ front woman Valerie Day, pianist Darrell Grant and the Portland Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Yaacov Bergman.

Tickets for a special post-show reception with the cast and creators of Brain Chemistry are available separately through the Portland Chamber Orchestra by calling 503-771-3250. The $75 reception ticket includes a seat for the main production.

A culmination of OHSU’s “Brain Awareness” season of lectures and events, Brain Chemistry also features (via film shorts shot by local filmmaker and show director Jim Blashfield, famous for directing music videos for NU SHOOZ, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Michael Jackson, Paul Simon and others) Neuroscientist Dr. Larry Sherman who interjects between tunes to share the science behind the emotions.

Join this special evening – and one of the region’s most unique Valentines Day date ideas for 2009!
