It's been a long journey the past two years for Richmond, Virginia's Safety Word Orange. After forming the band in late 2007 and recording their debut Self-Titled EP in Los Angeles, California, Safety Word Orange moved back to their hometown of Richmond, Virginia to continue the movement they started out west.

Safety Word Orange was formed when lead singer James Mason met guitarist Robbie Rusbuldt in Los Angeles in late 2007. Upon returning to Virginia they began searching for a more permanent line-up. The first addition was guitarist Jackson Wise, followed by Reid Taylor on the bass and last was Travis King on drums.

In 2008 SWO was named "Indie Artist of the Year" by Music Emissions who said, "Safety Word Orange has a great start here; they have the ability to write power-pop songs that have a feel good vibe." Their pop-rock instrumentals are the foundation behind lead singer James Mason's strong and raspy vocals, backed by the clear tones of both Wise and Rusbuldt. "With as much musicianship as you can handle, Safety Word Orange is one of the best bands you've never heard." says Starpulse.com.

During the winter of 2009 SWO recorded at Red Wire Audio in Beltsville, MD with acclaimed producer Bryan Russell, (Straylight Run, Envy On the Coast) After months of promotion and touring, Safety Word Orange released their Sophomore EP, "On Your Mark, Get Set..." on May 18th.

Since the release of their new EP Safety Word Orange has received plenty of press attention. In August they were featured in Alternative Press in the AP&R section as one of their top unsigned artists of the month. The record got great reviews from places like Absolutepunk.net, Pastepunk.com and many other online blogs. They were also featured in Substream Music Press' Unsigned Artists section which said, "[Safety Word Orange] is defining the barriers of 'pop' while still holding on to that catchy sound that keeps songs in your head for hours."
