Boxing?s golden boy Amir Khan is heading to Nottingham Arena on Saturday 28th January 2006.

Promoter Frank Warren is bringing the Olympic silver medallist to the city for his fifth professional fight, against an opponent yet to be named.

At a press conference at Nottingham Arena today Amir Khan revealed how excited he was about his next big fight.

?Thanks for inviting us here. I?ve never boxed in Nottingham before so I?m looking forward to it. I hope we?ll be able to fill this arena like we have in previous fights around the country.?

Amir went on to say ?All the fights I have now are starting to get harder ? people want to beat me. The first four fights I?ve had have been a learning curve but I am enjoying it.?

Geoff Huckstep Chief Executive at Nottingham Arena said: ?We are delighted that Amir will be coming back here in January. It?s a coup for not just the city but the region as a whole and we relish the opportunity to see Amir boxing in the New Year.?
Along with Amir Khan the bill will be topped by Matt Skelton?s British heavyweight title defence against Scott Gammer and also features British welterweight champion Michael Jennings against Young Muttley.

It?s going to be a good night for local fighters as well with six East Midlands fighters taking to the ring.

The Light-Middleweight contest will feature Martin Concepcion from Leicester and Ricardo Samms from Nottingham will fight in the Super-Middleweight contest. Derby boy Scott Haywood lines up in the Light-Heavyweight contest.

They?ll be joined by Jonjo Finnegan from Burton-on- Trent in the Super-Middleweight and Jonathan Whiteman from Mansfield is the Welterwight contest.
