Spend an afternoon learning the ancient method of starting a fire without matches-bow-drilling. Wilderness field instructor, Justin Hupp, will share his expertise in this primitive art of fire making. Participants will identify trees that provide the best materials for bow-drilling, learn how to make a bow-drill set, prepare that set to create an ember, and then blow that ember into a flame. Justin will have bow-drill sets available to purchase for $10. This outdoor workshop involves hiking, bending and kneeling. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes that can get dirty and pack along a water bottle.. Participants will also be using knives and a saw.
