Urban Greenhouse Featuring Thousands of Plants, Educational Exhibit and Tasting Stations with Classic Summer Drinks at Rockefeller Center

Just in time for summer, Rockefeller Center will transform its world-famous Plaza into a jungle of lush greenery filled with thousands of stevia plants housed in a sleek 20 x 40 foot urban Greenhouse on Wednesday, July 9th through Friday, July 11th at Rockefeller Center Plaza, between 49th and 50th Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues, Manhattan.

The Greenhouse will serve as an educational experience for visitors to view and learn about the stevia plant, long celebrated in South America for its sweet leaves. Botanical experts will be on hand to demonstrate how a natural, no-calorie sweetener can be derived from the sweetest part of the leaf. Learn how stevia leaves are harvested and dried and then steeped in fresh water in a process similar to that of making tea. This unlocks the best tasting part of the leaf which is then purified to make a food grade sweetener perfect for using in summer drinks.

A combination botanical garden and fun 4H-type exhibit, the Greenhouse will also offer a special “First Taste Moment” tasting station, where guests can enjoy classic summer drinks sweetened with Truvia™ natural sweetener, a new, zero calorie sweetener derived from the best tasting part of the stevia leaf. The exhibit and product samples are free and open to the public and sponsored by agricultural company, Cargill.
