The Borealis String Quartet, formed in Vancouver in 2002, is in residence at the University of British Columbia. They are featured in numerous CBC broadcasts and were finalists in the Great Canadian Music Dream Competition.

Ah Ling Neu, viola, performed with Marlboro, Chamber Music/West and Tanglewood Festivals. She is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony, the Ridge Quartet, the EOS Orchestra and the Brandenburg Ensemble.

Latvian-born Canadian composer Imant Raminsh (1943) is a violinist and a composer of mostly orchestral and choral works. He has lived in Canada since 1948. The quartet was commissioned for the Borealis Quartet in memory of David Mardon, a beloved member of the music community of British Columbia.
